Just enough to call us "winners" Not long after the coin toss, the Syndicate was in the black and pretty much stayed there throughout the night. In the end, the net profit wasn't anything to retire on, but it's enough to let us have this much fun again next year. We covered expenses and have a little left over to do this all over again in Super Bowl 51. We will collect $1,864 on wagers of $1,722, a $142 profit. We had $103 in expenses so we have a $39 profit after all is said and done. Here's the recap: Proposition Parlay 1: After we lost the coin toss, the Broncos took the opening kickoff and drove far enough to get a field goal on the board within the first 6½ minutes of the game and set us up for a big win late. The two-leg parlay was completed when the Broncos recovered a fumble deep in Panthers territory with about 4 minutes to play and then scored inside the 3½-minute window. Proposition Parlay 2: This was one of the most disappointing losses as this parlay was looking good when Panthers QB Cam Newton rushed for 11 yards on the first play of the second quarter, giving us a win on the first leg. We needed a score in the last two minutes of the half, and the Panthers drove inside the 50-yard line but stalled when Newton was sacked on the last play of the half. There had been a score in the last two minutes of the first half in each of the previous seven Super Bowls. Proposition Parlay 3: We hit the first leg on Panther tight end Greg Olsen's first catch, and then cashed when Newton threw his only interception in the third quarter. Proposition Parlay 4: This one was over quickly. We got the first leg when Broncos QB Peyton Manning completed his first pass on the first play of the game. But on the very next play, he threw a short pass to Emmanuel Sanders and we lost the second leg. We collected $674 on the parlays on wagers of $450. Proposition 1: This looked bad when Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart left the game with a leg injury in the first quarter and it was announced that he was questionable to return. However, he did return and scored the Panthers' only touchdown in the second quarter for our biggest win of the night. Proposition 2: This wager was lost in the first quarter when the Broncos scored a defensive touchdown on a sack and fumble. We had Sanders for the first Broncos TD. Proposition 3: The Panthers called tails and won the toss, and we lost as we took heads. Propositions 4 and 5: With the play of the defenses on both teams, neither of these bets were close. The two touchdown runs in the game were 1 and 2 yards. The other TD came on a fumble recovery in the end zone. We bet over 89.5 total yards on the touchdowns, and we needed a TD of more than 42.5 yards. Proposition 6: When the Panthers cut the Broncos lead to 10-7, it looked promising to have the game tied at some point after 0-0. But the Broncos kicked two field goals for a 9-point lead and the math wasn't in our favor the rest of the way. Proposition 7: Despite the Broncos stiff defense and with what most would call a bad game by Newton, he threw for more than enough yards to get the over on his passing yardage. We hit this one early in the fourth quarter. Proposition 8: This is one of those that makes us shake our heads about how well the oddsmakers predict games. The over/under on Newton's longest rush was 13.5. We took the over. Newton ran for 14 yards on a play midway through the second quarter. Proposition 9: We thought Manning was good for a couple of TD passes. He never came close to throwing one. The NBA bets Proposition 10: We thought we had a decent number when Thunders guard Russell Westbrook went for 27 points and 12 assists on Saturday night. But Newton got just enough yards for us to lose this bet by 1.5 yards. Proposition 11: Golden State superstar Steph Curry had his worst 3-point shooting night of the year going 1-for-9 on Saturday night. He was 11-for-15 just three days earlier. We needed him to make four 3-point field goals to win this wager against Olsen's pass receptions. Proposition 12: This was one of the more improbable wins of the night. Broncos tight end Owen Daniels caught an 18-yard pass on the first play of the game, and he only needed 12 more yards the rest of the game to beat us on this bet against DeMarcus Cousins. Daniels didn't catch another pass and we were winners. We collected $1,190 on wagers of $1,272 on the single prop bets. So we go into the next Super Bowl with $1,864 in the pot. The accounts below are up to date. As always, if anyone wants to bail out of the Syndicate and collect their dough, just send us an email and we'll send it over. Otherwise, look for us just before the next Super Bowl and we'll go at it once again. Thanks for playing. Have a great football offseason. |
