Syndicate loses $19.74 per share
As always, there was lots of woulda, coulda, shoulda. But as grim as
things were at halftime, we made a nice recovery to get to the final
total. And we were one play away from collecting on a $3,000 ticket, and
one second away from another $1,200 ticket. Here's the rundown.
All but one of our parlays were dead by halftime. But even so, we ended
up two out of three on four parlays. The one that stung the most was
Parlay 2 where we needed the Colts to get that score at the end of the
game to put their score on an even number. That would have added $3,000
to our account. It was basically a $30 per share difference.
On Parlay 3, we needed there to be one second left on the clock when the
Saints kicked a field goal at the end of the first half. That would
meant a kickoff to the Colts and they would have had the last possession
of the first half to give us that $1,200 parlay.
On Parlay 4, we missed badly on Joseph Addai's receptions. He
caught a total of four passes in the Colts' first two playoff games. In
addition, we figured the Colts would be more successful throwing the
ball to their receivers downfield. Addai had three catches by halftime
and finished with seven.
And on Parlay 6, the field goals hit right on the over under of 3.
Again, we expected both teams to get more touchdowns and fewer field
goals.
And then there was the NBA/Super Bowl bet where we had total points by
LeBron James and Kobe Bryant against total points in the
Super Bowl. LeBron scored 47 in his game. There were 48 points in the
Super Bowl. But Kobe didn't play because of a bum ankle, so there was no
action on that game. We'll get back the $220 we wagered on that one.
We started the game by losing the coin toss when we took tails. Our
research showed us that heads had won the last three games, so we
figured the odds were in favor of tails.
And we still haven't hit the first touchdown of the game. On the Colts'
side, we debated between Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon,
eventually taking Collie because the odds on him were 12-to-1 and Garcon
was 10-to-1. Garcon got the score.
On the upside, we pulled one proposition out on the Colts' last drive
when Peyton Manning hit Collie on a 41-yard pass. We had a bet
that Manning would have a pass over 39½ yards. That was good for $420.
And we got Drew Brees' over/under on passing yards by two yards.
He needed 285½ and got 288.
It's already been suggested that we do more propositions and fewer
parlays next year. We'll be sure to consider that.
We will collect $2,950, which is $30.26 per share. If you had a good
time with this and want to be in on it again next year, you can leave
your money on account and add $20 next year to get to a full share. If
you want to collect your money, send us an e-mail at
jaygonzales@comcast.net and
we'll mail you a check. Be sure to include your address.
We hope you had fun.
