Syndicate 2009

Let it ride or take it and run?

Thanks to a wild fourth quarter, the Syndicate made a small profit of $3.73 per share.

When the Steelers scored the winning touchdown capping a 23-point fourth quarter, that put the total points at over 47 and gave us most points scored in the second half allowing us to hit a four-team parlay for only the second time in the history of the Syndicate. Hitting that $2,000 parlay allowed us to break even on our seven parlay bets.

We hit seven of our 13 propositions for a total of $2,943, including the elusive safety which we've bet for years but never hit. It was only the fourth safety in Super Bowl history and the first since 1990. We also hit our combo proposition of LeBron James' points -1.5 vs. the Steelers total points. James scored eight points in the final three minutes of his game against the Pistons, giving him 33 points, just enough to outlast the Steelers.

Technically, we won $593, but we had to cover the $250 plane flight to make the wagers so our net was $343.

As always, there were plenty of what-ifs. The scenario we were hoping for at the end of the game was for the Steelers to tie the game with a field goal and send it to overtime. Then if the Cardinals could win in OT with a field goal we would have hit another $3,000 on Parlay 2 and $1,200 on Parlay 3. An even simpler scenario would have been an interception by the Cardinals on their last drive which would have given us Parlay 5 for $1,200.

But as they say, that's why they call it gambling.

So now everyone has $53.73 on account. The consensus at Syndicate headquarters was to let it ride, leave it on account and bet it next year without anyone having to send in any more money. However, as always, if you want your dough, just let us know and we'll mail you a check after the tickets get cashed. If you want us to send your money, send us an e-mail with your intentions. Don't forget to include your address and the name you want the check made out to. Click here to send your e-mail. If we don't hear from you, we will assume you want to leave your money on account.

Thanks for playing and we'll be in touch next year.
